  16. IPXODI v. IPX

  18. IPXODI
  19. The IPX shipped with NetWare Lite (IPXODI) is not new and is not special to NetWare Lite.  Novell has made a general decision to convert from "linked" IPX to IPXODI.

IPXODI is functionally identical to the linked version of IPX, but the LSL (which is run with IPXODI) offers multiple-protocol and MLID capabilities.  NetWare Lite can be run on top of either (but not both) linked IPX or IPXODI.  STARTNET.BAT, which is created as part of the NetWare Lite installation, loads LSL, (the odi driver) and IPXODI by default, as follows:

  27. Linked IPX
  28. A linked IPX can be used in place of the ODI drivers.  It is generated using WSGEN.EXE which can be found on Compuserve.

  30. Compuserve
  31. A free Compuserve membership can be obtained by dialing (800)848-8199 in the U.S. and (614)457-0802 outside the U.S. (ask for Representative 200).  Compuserve will provide NetWare Lite customers with fifteen dollars worth of credit toward on-line services at no charge.

  33. To get WSGEN from Compuserve, follow this procedure:

  35.     GO NSD
  36.     Get the password from someone at Novell technical support (900)454-5483.
  37.     Once you are in NSD, download WSGEN.ZIP.
  38.     Note:  You must know the name of the file that you are going to download because Compuserve does not give you a list of files that can be downloaded.

  40. Note that you must have PKUNZIP.EXE to unzip WSGEN.ZIP.  If you do not have PKUNZIP.EXE, you can get it from Compuserve.  It is located inside of PKZ110.EXE which is another file which must be downloaded.

To download PKZ110.EXE, create a directory called PKZIP (either on floppy or on your hard drive).  Go to library 15 by typing "go NOVLIB" and download PKZ110.EXE.  Then, move PKZ110.EXE into the PKZIP directory.  Type "pkz110."  PKZ110.EXE will create PKUNZIP.EXE (and other programs which can be used for archiving functions).

  44. Once you have PKUNZIP.EXE, you can unzip WSGEN.ZIP.  Put WSGEN.ZIP into the PKZIP directory.  Next, type the following:

  46.     "pkunzip wsgen.zip <path where you want the files to be copied to>"
  47.     for example:  "pkunzip wsgen.zip c:\wsgen"

  49. The WSGEN files will be copied to the directory that you specify.  We recommend that you copy them to a floppy diskette.  This way, you will have a copy of the WSGEN files in a distinct and identifiable place.

  51. Using WSGEN
  52. You must have a *.OBJ file and a *.LAN file that is card specific in order to generate an IPX.  Put these files into a separate directory on your hard disk called \WSGEN.  Copy the WSGEN.EXE file into this directory.  Run wsgen from the ROOT DIRECTORY by typing the following:

  55. Follow the directions to generate a linked IPX.

  57. Using a Linked IPX
  58. If a linked IPX is being loaded (like in your AUTOEXEC.BAT), then LSL, the odi driver, and IPXODI should be taken out of the STARTNET.BAT file.
